CALIFORNIA

FRAUDWATCH: Approximately 13,000 liens from suspended providers Michael D. Drobot, Michael R. Drobot, and Philip A. Sobol, have been consolidated pursuant to the chief’s judge’s order in the workers’ compensation system and is pending further determination.

Two more medical providers have been suspended from participating in California’s workers’ compensation system by the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and its Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC). Fermin Iglesias and Steven Rigler both pled guilty to fraud.

MASSACHUSETTS

The state Department of Health and Human Services recently updated its Community Health Care (ambulatory care) guidelines for Surgery and Anesthesia, Medicine, and Radiology. The new rules took effect Aug. 1, 2017. Links found below.

MICHIGAN

The Health Care Services Division has updated its Hospital Cost-to-Charge ratios. These new ratios took effect Aug. 1.

WASHINGTON

Effective Aug. 1, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) for musculoskeletal conditions is no longer coverable. This decision was made by the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) who considered the condition unproven for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
