To the general public, workers’ compensation is often seen as a large government institution more than an effective health care system designed to improve the welfare of injured workers. Far too often, those in our industry are not credited with the tremendous good we do in helping millions of individuals injured in the workplace return to a functional lifestyle and keeping businesses operational.

As a leader in catastrophic injury management, Genex team members are often among the first on the ground when catastrophic injuries occur, assessing the injured and beginning the process of assuring a proper clinical treatment plan is developed.

This includes addressing the concerns of injured employees’ family members. Case managers are among the first to address the loved ones’ needs, hold a hand and provide a shoulder to lean on. They witness the direct impact these injuries have on the entire family unit. And while many employees involved in the worst workplace injuries survive, heal and return to work, for others, the outcome is tragic.

And that’s why Kids’ Chance of America is such an important program in our industry. It offers hope by providing educational opportunities and scholarships to hundreds of children of workers seriously injured or killed on the job. Since its inception 30 years ago, Kids’ Chance has grown substantially, providing over 6,500 scholarships, totaling over $20 million. It is also why we at Genex are proud to be part of the Kids’ Chance of America Partnership Program. As a member, Genex is among 12 companies who have committed to a national-level sponsorship.

Our Genex employees also share Kids’ Chance goal to improve the lives of injured workers and their families and are highly involved in the organization’s state affiliations, and national fundraising activities. This week, our home office celebrated Kids’ Chance Awareness Week by holding an employee fundraiser that raised over $1,300.

Genex is honored to be associated with an organization that does so much for families who have endured the traumatic life event of a catastrophic work injury. Kids’ Chance is a true reflection of the best workers’ comp has to offer. I encourage you to donate and help spread the word about this organization so we may continue the true mission of our industry, changing lives for the better.
