Genex Announces Case Manager Scholarship Award Recipients

June 10, 2015 – Wayne, Pa. — For the 1,600 case managers who work for Genex Services, “giving back” isn't a concept, it's a life choice. The day these professionals graduated from their nursing or vocational rehab programs, they committed to changing lives for the better and devoting themselves to the welfare of those entrusted to their care.

As the need for these professionals continues to grow in the workers' compensation industry, Genex case managers, supervisors and branch managers recently had another unique opportunity to give back to one of the noblest professions, by nominating their alma mater (or local college/university) for the 4th Annual Genex Case Manager Scholarship Award Program.

The program is designed to assist the institutions that develop and nurture future generations of students who are critical to the entire healthcare system. Genex, provides a total of $100,000 in scholarship awards to schools nominated by Genex case managers. The scholarships are intended to recognize the Genex graduates from these programs, strengthen the awareness of the case management profession, and invest in a new generation of future graduates to fill a growing industry need.

The colleges and universities receiving scholarship awards for 2015 and the Genex employees who nominated them are:

  • West Texas A&M University, Canyon, nominated by Carolyn Barron, supervisor of case management for the San Antonio  branch
  • Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina, nominated by Beverly Jeter, supervisor of case management for the Charlotte, NC, branch
  • San Diego State University, California, nominated by Mark Fillebrown, vocational case manager for the Wayne, PA, branch
  • Murray State University, Murray, KY, nominated by Janet Land, utilization review branch manager for the Dallas branch
  • University of Central Florida, Orlando, nominated by Myra Keleher, utilization review branch manager for the Winter Park, FL, branch

Each program will receive $20,000 to be used in support of the educational endeavors of their student population through scholarships.

“The Case Manager Scholarship Awards is one of the ways Genex honors our case managers for their commitment to helping injured workers return to the highest level of function,” said Tim Howard, senior vice president of field case management services at Genex. “By supporting their schools, we can help foster that growth of knowledge and skills that our case managers have developed to serve as the heart of workers' compensation.”

Genex's case managers work with treating physicians, employers and rehabilitation professionals to coordinate appropriate, quality care; ensure patient satisfaction; improve medical outcomes; facilitate a patient's timely return to work; and decrease overall health care expenses.
