On Jan. 1, California’s new drug formulary went into effect, establishing a list of medications to guide appropriate care for injured workers with a goal of cutting overall opioid usage. With emphasis on health outcomes and return to work, the formulary is designed to target non-exempt drugs that have become medically inappropriate over time. PRIUM's Mark Pew will explore how workers’ comp has responded to the new regulatory framework thus far, explain the rules that apply to the drug list designations, assess how the formulary relates to the latest Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule updates, and highlight tapering standards of care during the transition period.
